About Korea Untangled

Korea Untangled publishes practical, answer-first guidance for travelers who need to get connected, pay, book, navigate and solve problems in South Korea.

Most online material about Korea is either inspiration or how-to that has quietly gone out of date. Korea Untangled is built to be neither. Every Guide answers one real task, shows the date it was last checked, links the official or first-party source it relies on, and keeps a public log of what changed. When something has not been verified, the Guide says so plainly.

Who operates the site

Korea Untangled is operated by Park JiHun in South Korea under the OffVoice name. It is an independent project: editorial decisions are not directed by any investor, client, or commercial partner. The public contact address is [email protected].

PastHere Seoul is an OffVoice product, and DayKor is another OffVoice app referenced in some Guides. Any Korea Untangled article about a first-party product is labelled as a first-party product guide rather than presented as an independent review.

How Guides are made

Each Guide is written around a task or decision, not around a generic list of attractions. A publishable Guide includes:

  • an answer readers can act on quickly;
  • compatibility and requirement boundaries — whether it needs a Korean phone number, a foreign card, a Korean ID, or English support;
  • known failure points and fallback options;
  • links to current official or first-party sources;
  • a verification method and date;
  • a risk-based review schedule; and
  • a public change log for substantive updates.

A Guide that cannot meet every one of these conditions stays a draft. It does not publish, appear in site search, or show in the site’s feeds until the gaps are closed.

We distinguish official-source review, reader reports and genuine field testing. We do not label a Guide Field-tested unless the described task was actually performed and the supporting evidence meets the site’s editorial requirements.

Who checks the Guides

Guides use the public byline Korea Untangled Editorial Team. Editorial responsibility sits with the site operated by Park JiHun / OffVoice; this team byline does not claim a separate independent reviewer for every article. Each Guide shows its verification method, date and evidence limits. Named individual review or independent testing is claimed only when it is documented for that Guide. Only an account holding the site’s verifier permission can move a Guide from draft to published or change its last-verified date; ordinary edits such as fixing a typo or rewording a sentence never change that date.

Each Guide carries a review tier that sets how often it must be rechecked:

  • Changes often — rechecked about every 30 days (prices, timetables, live availability, app flows);
  • Changes periodically — rechecked about every 90 days;
  • Usually stable — rechecked about every 180 days.

A daily process tracks which Guides are current, due soon, or overdue. An overdue Guide shows a visible “due for rechecking” notice and is held out of the site’s “recently verified” list until it has been checked again.

How we handle money, payments, and emergencies

Guidance about payments, entry rules, safety, and emergencies is written for reader usefulness first and held to a higher bar:

  • Emergency and safety information is never placed behind an advertisement, an affiliate call to action, or an interstitial. Non-critical prompts, including the browser-language suggestion, are suppressed on the emergency help page.
  • Payment, emergency, and safety content in a translated edition is not published until a native-level reviewer has checked it, or the project owner has recorded a documented waiver — which is never presented as native review.
  • Prices, fares, and fees are shown with the date they were checked and an instruction to confirm the current figure with the official source before you rely on it.
  • Editorial planning figures, such as how much cash to carry, are labelled as examples rather than official requirements.

Images and screenshots

We prefer recent, author-owned photographs or commercially reusable images with a recorded source and license. Product screens are used only when they are author-owned, officially supplied with adequate reuse rights, or limited to a justified instructional excerpt.

When no safe and useful real image is available, we may use an AI-generated editorial illustration. It must be labeled in the visible caption and must not be presented as a real place, person, emergency, official interface, product screen or field test.

Independence and commercial relationships

Korea Untangled uses clearly disclosed KKday affiliate links in selected English, Traditional Chinese and Japanese guides. The options cover Incheon Airport transfers, WOWPASS, Korea data-only eSIMs and AREX Express tickets. They appear where the product fits the guide, including phone-number planning, arrival preparation and Seoul Station transfers. A qualifying booking may earn us a commission paid by KKday; we do not add a separate fee. Ordinary official-source links are not automatically affiliate links.
Affiliate scope updated September 27, 2026. Booking conditions and availability remain controlled by the provider.

There are no paid placements in the current pilot. Payment eligibility does not purchase a ranking, favorable factual conclusion, newer verification date or Field-tested label, and sponsorship is outside the pilot. Advertising may be introduced later only with the required disclosure and privacy controls.

Urgent safety, entry, transport and payment guidance is written for reader usefulness first. Advertising must not obscure the answer, impersonate navigation or delay emergency information.

Corrections and limitations

Travel rules, app screens, prices, schedules and provider support can change quickly. Readers should check the displayed verification date and confirm high-impact decisions with the linked official source.

To report a possible error, read the Corrections Policy or email [email protected]. Korea Untangled provides practical information, not individualized legal, immigration, medical or financial advice.

Staying up to date

Guides are dated when checked, and substantive changes are listed in each Guide’s public change log. New and updated Guides are published to the site’s RSS feed. We aim to acknowledge factual corrections about safety, entry, or payment issues quickly and to record material changes publicly.
